Did your semester go the way you had imagined? Why or why not? No, I had no idea what to expect for my first semester of my high school career. I imagined to happen was something along the line of getting assigned boring tasks, unexciting teachers, and tons of teenage angst. But what I got was the complete opposite, I couldn’t have gotten a better experience out of these several months. My class is fun, which I never thought could be a possibility, I enjoy coming to school. My teachers are amazing, and really passionate about the hands-on teaching technique which I adore. During this semester I don’t think one day has gone by where I haven’t laughed or smiled, I’m surrounded by people I find intriguing. So I stand with what I said before, no this semester didn’t go how I Imagined, and I will be grateful for that for many years to come. List and elaborate on at least three areas of personal growth.I would say that socially I've grown the most. During this semester I was not only taking classes with freshman but with sophomores too. This however did not phase me at all, I actually really enjoyed most of my sophomore pears and I think it was a good way to have upper and lower classmen collaborated and mix groups. Another way I have grown this semester is taking responsibility of my work. Most of the work was graded independently even if you worked in a group. This grading method got me to work harder on a day to day basis and I felt that it helped me take charge in what I needed to get done. I often found myself finished with my work before it was even needed to be turned in to the teacher of the class. Lastly, I think i've also grown as a leader throughout these projects so far in the semester. For the balsa projects I feel I took up a leader role, with sophomores and with freshman, with friends and strangers. I think I did it positively as well! List and elaborate on at least three areas of academic growth.I've never actually had a chemistry class before, so this was completely new to me. I enjoyed having science separated from math. It was really fun to do experiments first hand and work with actual chemistry and not just learning about it. I liked that we were given several essays that weren't too hard, but they got you thinking a lot. But in the end if you knew what you were talking about it becomes a breeze. This was great because I wasn't given too many writing pieces. In Andrew's class I learned a lot of cool facts and things about our Earth that I really wasn't too informed about before. I found it to be really interesting. There are also important issues going on in our world which go unnoticed which I learned from both Andrew and Adam. Did you accomplish or move closer to accomplishing any goals you had at the beginning of the semester? If so, explain how, if not, explain why. I didn't really have any major goals that I wanted to focus on during this semester. I was my first semester of highschool so I didn't really know what to expect I really just took it as came. But I feel I didn't really struggle at all and I actually had a lot of fun. I'm definitely going to miss this team. State and describe two goals for next semester. One in an area of personal growth and one in an area of academic growth. Additionally, very specifically explain how you plan to accomplish them. One goal that I have is taking more sensitive to find out which work is do when. Because I feel that I struggled to find out when certain things were due, even though I almost never turned work in late. I think it was unclear at moments with what I had to do. Another goal that I have is to read more often, I did read one book "The Bell Jar" but it wasn't that often that I did. So I just think taking more time to read is something I can work on. Did you engage in our project and the work that surrounded it to the best of your ability? If yes, cite and explain examples, if no, reflect on why that was, and what could have been done differently to get you to engage. Yes, I took advantage of the work given to me to get the best experience as possible. Some example of that would be open exploration, and the last balsa rocket project. I chose open exploration because I was given so much choice and my learning experience was to my choosing. It was an amazing opportunity that I believe I used to best with the help of my close friend Eva Heinrichs.I would also say that the Balsa project was also a good learning experience. Before this semester i've never had a project that was as hands-on as this one. Which made me really excited and happy because it was something almost completely new to me and we had a lot of freedom to do what we wanted during this project as well. If you could design and execute your own semester, your own project, what would it be and why? What would you hope others would learn from it? If I were to design and execute my own semester and project I would probably have it be something along the lines of my open exploration. We'd begin the semester by learning about different types of environments and the plants/wildlife that live in them. For the chemistry part you would have to find out what organisms, elements, and molecules they are made out of (or something similar to that). For the humanities part you would write an three page essay about a certain aspect of the environment that you took interest in such as an animal, plant, or particular thing that thrives in that environment. The project will also include various camping trips and outdoor outings! I hope that people would learn more about the non man-made life that surrounds them, it gets them to go outside more, and they would learn about how our earth came to be in all of its glory. What feedback do you have for us, Andrew and Adam? How could the project have been better? How could our individual classes have been better? One thing you may need to work on is being a little more available for the students. Because a lot of time numerous students have trouble locating you both. I've had a really good semester and honestly wish that I could stay with this class and these teachers. Thank you for such a good start to my highschool career. I wish you the best with the students you get next and for many years to come!
